The U.S. Public Health Service COSTEP Program
IHS employs 20-30 Environmental Health interns each
year through the US Public Health Service Junior Commissioned Officer Student
Training Extern Program (JrCOSTEP). Assignments are available throughout
the year, but most are filled in the summer. COSTEP's are assigned to a
preceptor at a field location and do Environmental Health work typical of an
IHS Sanitarian. COSTEP's are Commissioned Officers for the
summer and earn approximately $2000.00 a month as an Ensign in the
PHS.
For information about the COSTEP program and how to apply, please visit the
U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps COSTEP site
(http://www.usphs.gov/student) for
application packets, pay, benefits and entry requirements.
For information specifically about opportunities in
Environmental Health and Injury Prevention, please contact Kelly Taylor at
(301) 443-1593 or by e-mail at Kelly.Taylor@ihs.gov.
